Superior Quality Cashew Nuts - How do we do?
Fresh cashew seeds are planted, grafted, manured, fertilized, irrigated and harvested from our very own farms practicing organic farming techniques. After harvest, the yield is processed carefully to meet the international norms and standards. Our farming process include
Soil Analysis
Though cashew can be grown in poor soils, the yield is supposed to be best from good soils. We always prefer well-drained, deep and rich soil consisting of a mixture of sand and clay and decaying organic materials for our cashew cultivation.
Planting
Typically cashew nut is a cross cross-pollinated crop and shows extensive variance in terms of nut, apple and output of seedling offspring. We purchase planting materials from authentic and certified nurseries after carefully analyzing plant age, assortment of the cashew nut, part of a root used for plant propagation; especially that part of a grafted plant that supplies the roots (rootstock) used and so on.
Manuring and Fertilization
In order to grow cashew better and make better yield, we always preserve sufficient N-P-K ratio of our organic fertilizers. Furthermore, we always ensure that our farmers use either all-organic, or comprise principally organic materials.
Harvest
Cashew plants start yielding after three years of planting. The cashews are usually harvested during February – May in India. The matureness of the cashew is examined by adopting floatation process. The cashew nuts are typically accumulated at weekly intervals from our farm lands during the harvesting season.
Cashew Nut Processing
The primary objective of cashew processing is to draw out the healthy, dainty kernel from the raw cashew nut in the shell. Cashew nut processing can be further split into a series of delicate steps.
Sun Drying:
The first step in cashew nut processing is sun-drying the raw cashew nuts and store them in gunny bags. These cashews are dried in the hot sun for a couple of days and are then gathered for further processes. Sun Drying helps in the elimination of surplus humidity, which results in longer life of the cashew nuts.
Steaming:
Steaming the raw sun-dried cashew is the next step. Steaming the in-shell cashew nuts under pressure helps in making the shell loose, which makes the removing process easier. The steamed cashews are then transferred from roasting drums and spread out in the outdoors for about 12 hours, which allows them to cool off and it also helps in elimination of the cashew shells.
Shell Cutting:
The roasted cashew nuts are then transferred to the cutting department for removal of the outer shell. This process involves placing each cashew nut between the blades of the machine. The cashew nut shells are split open longitudinally and the cashew inside is at once separated by hand. Eventually, the refining process comes out with the yield of cashew nut with a soft inner shell.
Oven Drying:
Once the cashew kernels are removed from their outer shells, they are dried in an Industrial oven at a relatively low temperature for a few hours to make the skin loose which simplifies the peeling process.
Peeling:
The outer skin, which turns reddish after the drying process known as ‘Testa’ is peeled off to obtain the final cashew nut. Each nut is independently peeled to yield white nuts. These white nuts are then directed to the grading division.
Grading:
Grading of the processed cashew nuts is based on the color and the way the cashew kernels are broken. The grading is decided as per the AGMARK standards. The nuts are further split into 5 (WW -180, WW-240, WW-320, WW-210, WW-450) high-Quality grades as per the standards.
Packing:
The high ranked sample containers are further approved to the packaging line. We provide a complete solution for conditioning and packaging of cashew kernels with our exclusive vacuum packing machine. Our professionals scarf the cashews using the 1st-grade bags and transfer them to our storage facility.
